Most people still flatten every unresolved clip into the same story. The better move is to separate provenance, sensor quality, context, and conclusion.
The first question is not whether something looks strange. It is whether the footage or document is authentic, traceable, and attached to a known sensor or institution. The public release of the Navy videos mattered because it settled a provenance question, not because it solved the objects.
An open case often means there is not enough metadata, calibration, or corroboration to close it. That is analytically different from saying the object was extraordinary or extraterrestrial. AARO’s imagery pages show this pattern repeatedly.
The best researchers keep the claim as tight as the evidence requires. Sometimes the right answer is simply: real footage, real object, origin unknown. That may feel emotionally unsatisfying, but it is how the standard stays usable.
